  • This manual was presented by its Coordinator, Romina Ferral, the President of FAGAL, Juan Carlos Rodríguez, and the President of COTS, Marta Capeáns.

The Federation Alzhéimer Galicia presented yesterday the manual "Social Work in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative dementias" at the Sociocultural Center of the Ensanche, in Santiago de Compostela. This document was prepared by nine professionals of the Galician associations and the federation that form the Working Group of Social Workers of FAGAL, created in the year 2016. The objective of this manual is to be a reference for professionals in this field as well as the one of unifying criteria of attention for the associations that work with people with Alzheimer's.

The event was attended by the Coordinator of the Manual, Romina Ferral, who wanted to emphasize the duty of professionals to be up to date and have a permanent training. He also stressed that "this manual is aimed at people who want to know more about social work and dementias, both students and professionals."

On the other hand, the President of FAGAL, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Bernárdez, remarked the importance of this manual as "it is the first specific document of attention to dementias in the field of Social Work in Spain". In this sense recalled the importance of the agreement signed with the Official College of Social Work of Galicia last year and that will fructify in a course on dementias of more than 100 hours that will begin in the coming weeks. This was confirmed by its President, Marta Capeáns, who took the opportunity to congratulate the authors of the manual, which he considers "very important and from the College will always be supporting this type of initiatives."

This specific manual on Social Work aims to give a broad vision of the work of professionals in this field in associations of people with Alzheimer's, including useful information for families, such as existing social resources or services performed by AFAs. The document will be available in the next few weeks on the federation's website (www.fagal.org) for free download.
