The Alzheimer's Umbrella Network Program awarded in the VIII Edition of the AGADER Awards

The Alzheimer's Umbrella Network Program launched by the Federation Alzheimer Galicia and the Barrié Foundation, has been awarded in the VIII Edition of the AGADER Awards to rural development initiatives.
These Awards, organized by the Galician Agency of Rural Development, aim to reward those initiatives that contribute in a singular way to the promotion of the rural environment and to the generation of a more dynamic and cohesive society.

The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 15, at the Parador de Santo Estevo in Ribas de Sil. The director of Social Action of the Barrié Foundation, Mª Isabel Pérez, and the Federation Alzhéimer Galicia (FAGAL), its president, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Bernárdez, attended.

The Alzheimer's Umbrella Network Program was born in 2013 and aims to support families of people with Alzheimer's in rural Galicia with direct care and support to caregivers and memory units for those affected, as well as promoting associations under the protection, experience and coordination of existing entities.

Within the framework of Alzheimer's Umbrella Network Program have developed the following activities:

1. Informative talks: dfrom the sanitary, social and psychological point of view, oriented to the symptoms that the affected person may manifest. It was possible to create a stable group of relatives who could participate in subsequent activities (39 talks, 1,053 attendees)

2. Training: composed of four talks / workshops from which dementias were addressed from different areas with the aim of providing family members with guidelines for action in the different stages of the disease (10 cycles, 200 participants)

3. Memory units oriented to people with a dementia. The format of the sessions of the workshops was dynamic and attractive for the attendees, creating a didactic and relaxed space. The interventions were based on proven efficacy stimulation techniques: cognitive stimulation, activities of daily living, music therapy ... A file was opened for each of the attendees and regular individual meetings were held with them and / or with their relatives (5 units, 62 participants)

In addition, between the year 2015 and 2016, 11 rural social care units were opened, serving 276 families and which materialized in 6 collaboration agreements between the municipalities of those counties and the associations of relatives of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias. area.

Last February, the Federation Alzheimer Galicia and the Barrié Foundation renewed their collaboration agreement with the aim of undertaking a third part of the Alzheimer's Umbrella Network Program, which aims to launch new units of respite and care for families caregivers .
