The Federación Alzhéimer Galicia win the Galicia´s Health Awards in the category Patients Association

  • The President of FAGAL collects the award thanking the jury distinction and recalled the need for cross-cutting policies that involve all levels of government.
  • The jury highlighted the work done by FAGAL in different programs, such as the "Red Paraguas" of Barrié Foundation or the campaign "In Alzheimer you are an important piece."
  • The second edition of Galicia´s Health Awards are organized by Sanitaria 2000 and recognize initiatives of interest in the health sector.

The Federation Alzheimer Galicia was awarded yesterday with the Galicia`s Health Award in the category of Patients Association. This second edition of the awards, organized by publishing house Sanitaria 2000 and held at the San Francisco Hotel Monumento in Santiago de Compostela, wanted to recognize interest initiatives, good practices and outstanding trajectories of Galician health sector. The event was attended by the Regional Minister of Health of the Goverment of Galicia, Jesús Vázquez Almuíña, and the President of the Parliament of Galicia, Miguel Santalices.

In charge of receiving the award was the President of the Federation Alzheimer Galicia, Juan Carlos Rodriguez Bernérdez, who thanked the jury and Health 2000 this recognition, while recalled the need to continue working for the rights of people with dementia and their families and the implementation of cross-cutting policies that involve all areas of the different public administrations.

The award won by FAGAL, who shared nomination with the Galician Federation of Rare Diseases and Chronic (FEGEREC) and the Association of Children with Diabetes Galicia (Anedia) recognizes 18 years of work of the Federation and their 13 associations that help both people affected and the 5,000 families served. The jury also highlighted the work done with the SERGAS to train professionals, families and caregivers, as well as programs such as the "Red Paraguas", result of the agreement with the Barrié Foundation, and allows to establish a necessary support in rural areas for directly or indirectly affected by these ailments. Finally, campaigns like last year on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day, "In Alzheimer you are an important piece" are also distinguished.
