The Federation Alzheimer Galicia calls for more resources for the care of people with Alzheimer's for the World Day

  • FAGAL presented its campaign for World Alzheimer's Day this morning, in which it emphasizes the importance of social awareness and support for the investigation of this disease.

The Federation Alzheimer Galicia (FAGAL) presented this morning at a press conference its campaign for World Alzheimer's Day, in which claims the need for greater social awareness of the disease in which the defense of the rights and dignity of the people affected. Under the slogan "She will not remember, and you?", the federation also wants to emphasize the importance of commitment to research as the only resource to move towards the eradication of Alzheimer's.

The president of FAGAL, ​​Juan Carlos Rodríguez, stressed that we must "claim the dignity of the person with Alzheimer and their caregivers, working on that social awareness", in reference to the theme used this year by the federation. He also called on the administrations to start up more resources to care for people with Alzheimer's disease, as part of the Transversal Strategy of Care for Dementias in Galicia that the federation has been demanding in recent years.

On the other hand, the coordinator of the Galician Network for Research in Dementia (REGIDEM), Carlos Spuch, advanced the intention of the Network to launch an epidemiological project to "know how many people have a dementia in Galicia, distinguishing rural areas from the urban areas ". The researcher estimated that around 100,000 people in Galicia suffer from some type of dementia, according to estimates made with WHO data.

20th Anniversary Gala

FAGAL took advantage of this event to present the campaign launched on August 31st on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day, under the motto "She will not remember, and you?", and give an account of the events planned to commemorate this date as the 20th Anniversary of the entity.

On Saturday 22 the federation organizes a commemorative Gala, which will gather in Santiago de Compostela all those people essential for the development of the federation during these 20 years. Presented by the actress Lucía Regueiro, will feature the performances of Tania Fuegho, Silvia Penide and Fran Allo. On the other hand, tomorrow at 12 o'clock there is a federation together with the Directorate General of Seniors and the CERMI Galicia inaugurates the exhibition "CAPACITARTE: Así somos, así o facemos" in the Xunta de Galicia, a photographic exhibition of the most outstanding projects march for the associative sector of Alzheimer's in recent years.

In the training section, the federation will participate on the 18th will participate in the First National Symposium "Socio-health research in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias", organized by the Queen Sofia Foundation, CEAFA and the CRE Alzheimer in the Faculty of Medicine. Likewise, on Monday 24 FAGAL organizes together with the Economic and Social Council the "Aging and dementias" day, in which various social agents will present a global vision of this ailment.


Through social networks, the Federation Alzhéimer Galicia encourages citizens to follow and support the campaign under the hashtag #NonMeEsquecerei, publishing a photo of themselves with the campaign poster or highlighting a calendar on September 21 together with the motto previously indicated.
