30/1/2018

The President of the Federation Alzheimer Galicia, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Bernárdez, participated last Friday in a conference organized by the Socialist Parliamentary Group, held in the Parliament of Galicia. This event, focused on the field of disability and social inclusion, brought together the entities belonging to the CERMI Galicia, which could make known the needs of different types of disability.

During his speech, the President of FAGAL highlighted the work of the federation and its 13 entities, which allows bringing resources for people with dementia and their families to close to 80% of the Galician population. In addition, he recalled that this disease affects some 100,000 people in Galicia and that it is urgent to recognize the disease as a priority of public health and the implementation of a Transversal Strategy of Attention to Dementia in our community. Finally, he stressed the effect of this disease on families, which in most cases assume the care of the affected person and that causes situations of social exclusion, so it is important to create resources for them.

This conference was inaugurated by Xaquín Fernández Leiceaga, spokesman of the parliamentary group, and closed by the General Secretary of PSdeG-PSOE, Gonzalo Caballero, together with the president of CERMI Galicia, Iker Sertucha. The socialist leader stressed that in the work agenda of PSdeG for 2018 is the task of marking a social priority in Galicia and to remind the Galician Government of the need to address the concerns and demands of groups with greater social needs.
