Working Group on Dementia

The Manual of Social Work of FAGAL was presented at the XIII State and I Ibero-American Congress of this discipline

  • The Coordinator of the manual, Romina Ferral, was in charge of presenting the work done in the last year by nine professionals from the Galician associations.
  • The XIII State Congress and I Ibero-American Congress of Social Work took place this weekend in Mérida and gathered more than 1,200 specialists in this field.

This weekend, the XIII State Congress and 1st Ibero-American Congress of Social Work was celebrated in the Extremaduran town of Mérida under the motto "Building Sustainable Communities". The event, organized by the General Council of Social Work, brought together more than 1,200 professionals from this discipline who were able to address around 15 thematic axes, such as gender and equal opportunities or the scope of interventions of social workers.

This event was attended by the Federation Alzhéimer Galicia, which took advantage of this opportunity to present, within the communications program "Social work in people and families", its manual "Social work in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative dementias" / strong>. It was her coordinator, the social worker of AFAMO, Romina Ferral, in charge of revealing this document prepared by nine professionals of the Galician associations, through a working group developed in the last year.

The coordinator of the group stressed the importance of this manual, the first at the state level that addresses the work of the social work professional in a field as specific as the Alzheimer's. In addition, she wanted to put into value one of the objectives of this manual, as it is to unify the criteria of care in Galician associations working with people affected by dementia.

The handbook "Social work in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative dementias" will be available in the coming weeks, free of charge, on the FAGAL website www.fagal.org.
