If someone from the family circle picks up on any of the warning signs, these deficiencies must be verified by other family members and consulted with a primary care physician.  It is recommended observing the affected person's reactions and behavior during the diagnosis process and requesting information, advice and aid. Sometimes, during primary care consultations, suspicious signs are already detected.  In that moment, medical staff will prescribe an in-depth diagnostic study if convenient.

An early diagnosis is especially important because it allows detecting and treating possible reversible dementias. Cognitive impairment treatments are more efficient in the first stages, slowing down the development of the disease and favoring life planning for the family and for the person with dementia.

It is important to mention that a dementia diagnosis must be executed by medical specialists.
