Conselleira Fabiola García visits the care unit for rural areas from project RedMay

Federación Alzhéimer Galicia and the company Silman 97 operate project RedMay developed by the Xunta de Galicia

At the beginning of July, Conselleira de Política Social (Minister of Social Policy), Fabiola García, inaugurated project RedMay in Tordoia, which brings mobile units with podiatry, optics and Azheimer’s and dementia prevention services to rural areas of Galicia. The company Silman 97 supplies the trucks where this activity is carried out and Federación Alzhéimer Galicia is in charge of the project's management.

RedMay's goal is bringing specialized attention services to people over the age of 55 who can’t access them in rural areas. This allows elderly people to stay at home as long as possible, improving their quality of life and fostering health in them.

During the visit to the mobile unit, in the presence of the Federación Alzhéimer Galicia's president Juan Carlos Rodríguez and vice-president Isabel Gey, Conselleira Fabiola García explained that this program is “another example of the Galician government’s commitment to make the wish of elderly people of remaining at home while being attended a reality, with all available services and the best conditions.”

The program is developing in Galicia and Northern Portugal. It is also supported by the European Union and it is associated with the Universidad de Vigo and the Camara Municipal de Braga.

RedMay will be available in 20 rural Galician municipalities until November and it will stay five days in every place visited.
