Federación Alzhéimer Galicia takes part in the XIII Encuentro de Participación event that EAPN-Spain and EAPN Galicia organized in Santiago de Compostela

Federación Azhéimer Galicia took part in the XIII Encuentro de Participación (Participation Meeting) event that EAPN-Spain (European Anti-Poverty Network in Spain) and EAPN Galicia (European Anti-Poverty Network in Galicia) organized in Santiago de Compostela from June 26th to June 28th under the motto: “Fight against Poverty, Social Exclusion and Inequality within the framework of SDGs.”

 

In this event, which included the participation of more than 200 people from all over the country, with the 16 member entities of EAPN-Galicia among them, FAGAL being one of them, had the objective of creating a space that contributes to empowering the people at risk of poverty and/or exclusion, supporting their abilities to know, understand, defend and demand their rights granted.

Additionally, this year, Federación Alzhéimer Galicia has a stronger linkage to EAPN-Galicia since it has become a management board member, which allows presenting our demands clearly.

We see in our area of intervention that the profile of the caregiver matches today a woman between the ages of 45 and 55 who, many times, has to quit her job to devote herself to nursing the person with dementia. This certainly impacts significantly on household income. Besides, when these women end their caregiver period, they find themselves in a complicated age for the integration in the labor market. All of this makes these women a group at risk of social exclusion.

This is one of the reasons why the federation must actively participate in organization dedicated to fighting and eradicating poverty with the purpose of building through network a fairer world.

The president of the Xunta de Galicia Alberto Núñez Feijóo, Conselleira Fabiola García, president of the Parliament of Galicia Miguel Ángel Santarices and Secretary of State for Social Services Ana Lima participated in this event alongside people at risk of poverty, recipients of 16 Galician social action NGOs.
