One of our strategic lines in Federación Alzhéimer Galicia is providing training to family members that favors the development of their abilities and competences when it comes to dementia.

TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR CAREGIVERS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA

This program’s main purpose is training main caregivers and family members about caring and good practices. They get advice, information and knowledge about the disease to upgrade their response before many different daily life situations and about taking care of people with dementia.

INTERDISCIPLINARY DAY

The conferences, which have been held uninterruptedly since 2003, promote knowledge about Alzheimer's and other dementias to families caring for people with dementia: types of dementia, approach models in different regions and countries, research evolution and intervention models.
 
From the year 2023, it is promoted to give people with dementia a voice, so that they can tell in first person how the diagnosis has affected them and that they express their feelings and wishes regarding this disease.

JUNTOS EN LOS CUIDADOS (CARING TOGETHER) PROGRAM

This program consists in bringing the concept of Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia, resources and available services to those regions where non-professional caregivers need major local support when it comes to dementia. 8-hour courses distributed over 2 or 4 days are performed by a person with a degree in Psychology, providing information and advice.

RED PARAGUAS ALZHÉIMER DE ATENCIÓN RURAL (RURAL ALZHEIMER UMBRELLA NETWORK) PROGRAM

This program’s main goal is fostering caregiver families’ training through the launch of respite care units in rural areas of Galicia. A respite care unit is a service where stimulation programs and care programs for people with neurodegenerative dementia are carried out and, also, where social and psychological care for caregiver families is promoted.

TRAINING PROGRAM FOR NON-PROFESSIONAL CAREGIVERS

Member organizations of Federación Alzhéimer Galicia carry out different courses, talks and conferences aimed at non-professional caregivers thanks to this program. They get information and advice on issues that might help improving the quality of life of the entire family: cognitive and non-cognitive symptoms, non-pharmacological therapies, home care, caregiver’s care...
