Federación Alzhéimer Galicia kicked off its campaign for the World Alzheimer’s Day on the 4th of September. The slogan in 2019 was related to the Camino de Santiago: “La memoria en los caminos” (Memories on the journey) symbolizes the memories we collect throughout our entire lives and we don’t want to forget, advocating for that to happen one day.

Throughout the month of September, anybody interested was able to engage in the activities organized by the federation, whose main purpose was raising awareness about the work the entity does in the dementia and Alzheimer's fields in Galicia.

III Andaina Solidaria

The federation's main event is the Andaina Solidaria (charity walk) that took place on Saturday September 14th and went through the streets of Santiago de Compostela, from Monte del Gozo to Parque de Bonaval through Praza do Obradoiro.

“Alois por los caminos”

From September to December, signs with the Federation Alzhéimer Galicia logo “Alois” were displayed at the Camino de Santiago, at strategic locations close to 15 Galician Alzheimer associations. These devices had detailed information about dementia in the area as well as the reference organization. This way, the federation's work and the reality of Alzheimer's disease was brought closer to the pilgrims. In the federation’s website you could look up the location of the Alois.

Photo contest: “La memoria en los caminos”

Connected to the previous section, the featured photo contest consisted in taking a selfie with any of the “Alois” across the pilgrimage routes and uploading it to social media with hashtags #amemorianoscaminos #OteuXacobeo #Xacobeo2021.

In addition, as the final touch, the campaign video of 2019 highlighted the caregiver figure.

All these activities were part of the O teu Xacobeo program by the Xunta de Galicia.

From the Federación Alzhéimer Galicia we want to thank every person and entity that helped us spread the word about our work and raise awareness about this illness that affects more than 70,000 people only in Galicia.
