In this meeting, coordinated by Federación Alzhéimer Galicia, attendants shared the work that each association is doing, agreeing on their concern for the effect the COVID-19 confinement is having on people with neurodegenerative dementia and their caregivers.

The monitoring every association is carrying out is showing general deterioration in people affected by dementia that, after so many days at home, start to show mood swings and a deterioration of their physical and cognitive condition. In regard to caregivers, overloading levels are detected with physical and psychological consequences.

Home assistance and home stimulation programs have become more valuable in this respect and, on the de-escalation process, they will become essential.

The president of the federation informed that they are working to make care services a priority in the sociosanitary system and, by doing so, avoiding a general deterioration on the affected and their families. Additionally, the federation will work on new assistance concepts to guarantee a better care while meeting health protection measures.
