Since 2015, CEAFA (Spanish Alzheimer’s Confederation) has been boosting this long journey project “Censo de las personas con Alzhéimer y otras demencias de España” (Census of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in Spain) throughout the entire country. This project intends to evaluate and describe the extents of this disease, as well as understanding its evolution and tendency, to plan and deploy the right resources, solutions, support and policies for the affected people and their families.

On April 16th, CEAFA had a meeting with Federación Azhéimer Galicia to launch this much needed project in our community, where collaborative lines were laid out and all the data they’re going to collect was presented.

Therewith, this project will collect the number of people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease based on a series of variables or minimum information fields (age, gender, home area, years since the first diagnosis, type of dementia, stage of the disease, etc.) based on available information from the Health Care System in Galicia.

Additionally, this project will include supplementary population and social information about the situation’s profiles and characteristics and the needs of people with Alzheimer’s based on the example of FAGAL’s associative movement that provides services to almost 85% of the affected population in Galicia.
